Background

A Comprehensive and Inclusive Approach to Reconciliation
and Integration

The Community Centre in Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje
is based in the centre of the town

The Community Centre in Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje (CC FK-KP) has been open for public use since November 2000 within the framework of an OSCE umbrella project for the development of civil society. The aim of the project was to streamline and strengthen the capacities of local grassroots, non-governmental organisations, civil society and local community structures, as well as to support initiatives from the ground and to promote the participation of ordinary people from all communities in public life.

The Community Centre in Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje covers three municipalities: Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje, Obiliq/Obilić and part of Prishtinë/Priština.

The Community Centre is located in the centre of Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje town, and benefits from this being a multiethnic area: access to the Centre for minority communities has been much easier as a result, a fact that has played an enormously valuable part in the CC’s success. During the three years since the Centre was established, with its multiethnic team of staff, the CC has succeeded in developing strong relationships based on trust, and a good image amongst all communities based in the area, as well as with local NGO representatives and municipality officials. This is due to strong adherence to the firm CC principles of solidarity, human dignity, equality of rights and opportunities for all people, as well as a true respect for diversity and co-existence, paying special attention to the most vulnerable and unprotected groups in society.

Through the projects implemented so far, the Centre has tried to mobilise communities, and thereby promote intercultural dialogue, and to encourage communities to move forward with confidence in the development process.
