NDD advocacy campaign for all communities progressing in nine municipalities

Prizren NGOs and local institutions’ representatives debating on street kids and right to education

In August 2005 the Network for Democratic Development (NDD) has launched a new multiethnic advocacy campaign targeting nine municipalities in Kosovo Albanian, Kosovo Serb and ethnically mixed areas.

The initiative is funded by the OSCE Mission in Kosovo and implemented through the network of the nine NDD centres located in Dragash/Dragaš, Gjakovë/Đjakovica, Leposavić/Leposaviq, Mitrovicë/Mitrovica, Pejë/Peć, Prizren, Ropotovo/Roptovë (Kamenicë/Kamenica), Štrpce/Shtërpcë and Zubin Potok.

The first three activities have targeted the right to education, environment protection, the shortage of electric energy affecting local communities. A questionnaire has been submitted in each location to 100 people of different age, gender and ethnicity aiming to find what is the public perception of the problem and its possible solutions.

The results have been then debated in a series of roundtables involving relevant local civil society organisations (CSO), interest groups, local institutions and media representatives. A series of recommendations have been generated on each topic discussed and forwarded to relevant institutions for follow up. Complementary activities have been initiated and monitored.
